The increase of the tube diameter from 25.4 mm where the stem clamps the handlebars allows for a much tighter grip than the traditional 22.2 mm tube found on most handlebars and stems. Handlebars have become taller over the years, and the leverage that goes through the bar and into the stem often leads to the bar slipping in the stem or, worse, cracks in the clamping area on 2pc bars and especially on 4pc bars. The 25.4 mm Strangler bar combines the 25.4 mm clamping area with a 25.4 mm grip tube that then tapers down to a standard 22.2 mm tube higher up the bar. By using larger diameter tubes at the contact area, you nearly double the amount of material in contact, resulting in a significantly stronger joint.
