Andrew Jackson is part of Flashpoint MVMNT, a program founded by Giro to break down barriers and change the image of cycling. Andrew hails from downtown Los Angeles, California, and has an impressive history as a street-riding legend in BMX. He has recently discovered the joy of drop-bar bikes, trading rail slides and wall rides for gravel events and road races. He brings a creative new style to gravel and road riding, inspired by his experience at BMX and his professional career as a filmmaker.
This graphic began with a photograph Andrew took of a street in the arts district of Los Angeles. " Los Angeles has changed so much in recent years," he says. "This neighborhood has gentrified. Lyft now has a huge headquarters there. Walking these streets every day, Andrew can clearly see the contrasts between the old arts district and the new, gentrified version. "It's a city of contrasts: when people think of Los Angeles, they think of palm trees and sunshine," he says. "We have that, but we also have tent encampments next to $5 million homes. We have an arts district that artists can no longer afford, because it's considered the hottest real estate market in the country. People think the best rides at Los Angeles are along the beach, but I have some incredible gravel rides that start downtown.
